Correction & Retraction
Policy for correcting, maintaining, and, when necessary, retracting published scholarly articles.
Journal of Management, Economics, and Accounting Research (JoMEAR) is committed to maintaining the accuracy, integrity, and permanence of the scholarly record. Once an article has been formally published, the article becomes part of the permanent scholarly record and is not removed merely because an author changes their mind, experiences an administrative issue, or requests withdrawal for personal reasons.
1. Permanence of Published Articles
After an article has been formally published, it cannot be withdrawn or removed at the request of the author for personal, administrative, financial, authorship-preference, or other non-ethical reasons.
Publication therefore represents the formal inclusion of the article in the journal's scholarly record. Authors are expected to carefully review the final version before publication and remain responsible for the accuracy and integrity of their work.
2. Corrections
JoMEAR may publish a correction when a published article contains an error that affects the accuracy or clarity of the scholarly record but does not invalidate the main findings or conclusions.
Examples may include:
- Typographical or factual errors;
- Incorrect author information;
- Incorrect affiliation or correspondence information;
- Errors in tables, figures, or captions;
- Minor metadata errors;
- Other errors that can be corrected without invalidating the article's principal findings.
Corrections should be transparent and linked to the original article whenever technically possible. The original scholarly record should remain traceable.
3. Retraction
Retraction is an exceptional editorial action used when a published article contains serious problems that substantially affect the reliability, integrity, or validity of the scholarly record.
Possible grounds for retraction may include:
- Fabrication or falsification of research data;
- Serious plagiarism or duplicate publication;
- Major undisclosed ethical violations;
- Manipulation of research results or evidence;
- Substantial errors that invalidate the principal findings;
- Serious authorship or publication misconduct;
- Other circumstances in which the published findings can no longer be considered reliable.
4. No Author-Initiated Withdrawal After Publication
An author may request a correction or raise a legitimate ethical concern regarding a published article. However, such a request does not automatically result in withdrawal or removal of the article.
The following are not normally grounds for withdrawal:
- Change of opinion by the author;
- Personal reasons;
- Disagreement among authors after publication;
- Failure to obtain an expected academic benefit;
- Changes in institutional affiliation;
- Financial or administrative considerations;
- Desire to submit substantially the same article elsewhere.
5. Retraction Is Not a Routine Withdrawal Mechanism
Retraction is not intended to provide authors with a mechanism for withdrawing a published article simply because they no longer wish the article to remain published. The primary purpose of retraction is to protect the integrity of the scholarly record.
Any decision to retract a published article is an editorial decision based on evidence and appropriate ethical considerations. The journal may seek clarification from the authors, editors, reviewers, institutions, or other relevant parties when necessary.
6. Expression of Concern
Where a potentially serious concern has been identified but the available evidence is insufficient to make an immediate final determination, JoMEAR may publish an Expression of Concern.
An Expression of Concern provides transparency to readers while an editorial or institutional investigation is ongoing.
7. Editorial Procedure
Concern Received
The journal receives a correction request or an allegation concerning a published article.
Initial Assessment
The editorial team assesses the nature, seriousness, and available evidence.
Author Response
Where appropriate, the authors may be invited to provide clarification or supporting information.
Editorial Decision
The journal determines whether a correction, Expression of Concern, retraction, or no action is appropriate.
Publication Notice
Where an editorial action is required, an appropriate notice is published and linked to the affected article.
8. Maintaining the Scholarly Record
JoMEAR aims to preserve the bibliographic and scholarly history of published articles. Where an article is corrected or retracted, the journal will maintain an appropriate record and provide a clear explanation of the editorial action whenever possible.
DOI and article metadata should remain traceable so that readers, indexing services, repositories, and citation databases can identify the status of the publication.
9. Post-Publication Changes
Published articles should not be silently replaced or materially altered without an appropriate editorial record. Where a substantive change is necessary, JoMEAR may publish a formal correction or other appropriate notice.
This approach protects citation integrity, transparency, and the continuity of the scholarly record.
Commitment to Publication Integrity
JoMEAR considers published articles to be part of the permanent scholarly record. Articles will not be withdrawn solely because an author requests removal after publication or for personal, administrative, or financial reasons. Any correction, Expression of Concern, or retraction will be considered only when justified by evidence and appropriate scholarly or publication-ethics considerations.
